• Is Wright wrong?

Presidential candidate’s Barak Obama’s pastor may just lose the election for the Illinois senator.  The Reverend Jeremiah Wright has accused the U.S. government of creating the HIV/AIDS virus, claimed that the 9/11 attacks were a judgment from God, and instead of beseeching “God bless America,” bellowed “God damn America.”

Whether Wright is wrong on his claims may be debatable, but the tone is certainly not Christian.  Paul admonishes followers of Christ to “speak the truth in love” and to “let your conversation be always full of grace” (Colossians 4:6).  So some, hopefully, gracious observations:

On balancing truth and grace

  • This has to be the only site mentioning Jeremiah Wright which still has NO comments.

At first I didn’t mind Jeremiah Wright. Looking at the full text of an entire sermon, or viewing it on U-Tube, I liked what he had to say. Besides, he is a pastor. It is not his job to smooth the way for church members who run for office, it is his job to give inspired and challenging sermons, which are nobody’s responsibility but his own.

But for some reason, he has decided to make major national appearances, trumpeting the worst, most ill=considered snippets of his long ministry, just when it would do the most damage to the member of his church who is running for office. He should have stayed in his church, and invited people who wanted to know about his church to come see him there. He knows that the only reason he is getting all this attention is because Barack Obama is running for president. Why is he letting himself be sucked into this? It is beginning to seem that he is doing it for himself, because he wants the limelight for his own perspectives, no matter what it costs everyone else. Sad.

  • i don’t think 9/11 was a form of punishment from God cos nothing evil comes from God, only good things come from God.
